Now approaching its 30th year, the mission of Leadership Greater Syracuse is to inspire current and future leaders to make a difference in the community. The one-year program immerses participants into Central New York’s issues and achievements while giving them the leadership skills and connections to effect change. The program teaches participants about community leadership, empowerment, group dynamics and community opportunities. The Class of 2020 will additionally learn about current trends in government, economic development, education, health and diversity and inclusion.
The Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 2020 consists of 54 professionals from a cross-section of local businesses, education and non-profit organizations. The program starts with a retreat in January and is followed by one full class day a month from February through November. The class days include participation from key community decision-makers. To date, 1,300 people have graduated from the program, and a recent survey has shown that 80% of all Leadership Greater Syracuse graduates still reside in Central New York and have held more than 800 volunteer positions.
